Viagra is a drug prescribed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It contains sildenafil in dosages of 25, 50, 100 mg.

Indications

Viagra is effective for erectile dysfunction of an initial and advanced stage. Erectile dysfunction can be caused by the following factors:

Concomitant use with other drugs

When used in conjunction with ritonavir, the maximum single dose of Viagra should not exceed 25 mg, the frequency of use – 1 time in 48 hours. When combined with inhibitors of the CYP3A4 isoenzyme (erythromycin, saquinavir, ketoconazole, itraconazole), the initial dose of Viagra should be 25 mg. The risk of developing postural hypotension in patients taking alpha-adrenergic blocking agents should only start taking Viagra after the stabilization of hemodynamics is achieved. The feasibility of lowering the initial dose of sildenafil should be considered.

Contraindications

• The use in patients receiving continuously or intermittently nitric oxide donors, organic nitrates or nitrites in any form is contraindicated as sildenafil enhances the hypotensive effect of nitrates; simultaneous use of the drug with other agents for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (safety and efficacy of combination therapy have not been studied);
• Children and adolescents under 18 years of age; women;
• Hypersensitivity to sildenafil or to any component of the drug.

Take the medication with caution in case of:

• anatomical penile deformation (including during angulation, cavernous fibrosis or Peyronie’s disease);
• in diseases predisposing to priapism development (such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, leukemia, thrombocytopenia);
• diseases accompanied by bleeding;
• exacerbation of peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum;
• hereditary retinitis pigmentosa;
• heart failure, unstable angina, suffered in the last 6 months of myocardial infarction, stroke, severe, life-threatening arrhythmias, arterial hypertension (blood pressure over 170/100 mm Hg) or hypotension (blood pressure over 90/50 mm Hg).

Side effects

If the instructions are not followed and the dosage is exceeded, the following side effects are observed:

• headaches and dizziness;
• face flushing;
• nasal congestion;
• lacrimation and short-term visual impairment;
• allergic reactions (rash on the skin, itching, swelling, and redness);
• cramps;
• increased heart rate, increased or decreased blood pressure, fainting;
• nausea and vomiting, bloating and abdominal pain, other digestive system reactions.

Some of the side effects disappear on their own in an hour (for example, tachycardia or facial redness), while others require drug
discontinuation and consultation with a primary care physician.
