Steven A. Elms combines financial industry expertise gained in the venture capital, investment banking and securities trading arenas. Prior to Perseus-Soros, he served as a Principal in the Life Sciences Investment Banking group of Hambrecht & Quist, a leading underwriter and strategic advisor of the biotechnology industry, where he was involved in over 60 financing and M&A transactions, helping clients raise in excess of $3.3 billion of capital. Prior to H&Q, Elms traded mortgage-backed securities for two years at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. In addition to serving as a Director of Ambit, Elms represents Perseus-Soros on the boards of Adams Laboratories and Novazyme Pharmaceuticals. He holds an M.B.A. from Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a B.A. in human biology from Stanford University.

M. Scott Salka

Chief Executive Officer, Ambit Biosciences

M. Scott Salka brings to Ambit expertise earned at the helm of several genomics companies. Prior to joining Ambit in 2001, he served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of two privately-held genomics companies, Arcaris, Inc. and 454 Corporation. He also previously co-founded one of the first commercial genomics companies, Sequana Therapeutics, Inc., a pioneer in the effort to commercialize the international Human Genome Project. As Sequana's Vice President of Operations and Chief Financial Officer, Salka played key roles in financing the company through private and public stock offerings and in establishing research alliances with GlaxoSmithKline, Boehringer Mannheim, Boehringer Ingelheim and Parke-Davis. Salka has also held various management positions at Burroughs Corporation, Unisys Corporation and The BFGoodrich Company, and he served honorably in the United States Army's Special Forces as an advisor to several Central American governments on matters of internal defense. Salka received his M.B.A. from Carnegie Mellon University and his B.S. in finance from San Diego State University.

Standish M. Fleming

Standish M. Fleming was a co-founder of Forward Ventures, which today manages over $340 million in funds. As President and CEO of Forward Ventures Services Corporation, Fleming directs the firm's operations and guides investment strategies. He also currently serves as a Director of Arizeke Pharmaceuticals, EndiCOR, MitoKor, Nereus Pharmaceuticals, Tandem Medical and Triangle Pharmaceuticals. Before establishing Forward Ventures II, he served as start-up Chairman, President, and CEO of GeneSys Therapeutics, Forward's first portfolio company. Fleming has also served as President and/or Founding Board Member of ten companies, including Actigen (now Corixa), CombiChem, GenQuest, Nereus Pharmaceuticals, Triangle Pharmaceuticals, AITRIA, Gryphon Sciences, Ciphergen Biosystems, First Dental Health and Arizeke Pharmaceuticals. Fleming earned his M.B.A. from the UCLA Graduate School of Management and his B.A. from Amherst College.

Nick Lydon, Ph.D.

Founder, Granite Biopharma LLC

Nick Lydon brings more than 15 years of experience in the discovery and development of kinase inhibitors to the Ambit team and is known for his discovery and preclinical development of Gleevec®, the blockbuster kinase inhibitor for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). Lydon founded and currently works for consulting company Granite Biopharma, LLC. He previously served as Vice President of Small Molecule Drug Discovery and Research Informatics at Amgen, Inc. and President and CEO of Kinetix Pharmaceuticals, which focused on accelerating the discovery and optimization of selective kinase inhibitors. Lydon managed the acquisition of Kinetix by Amgen after just three years of operations. Prior to founding Kinetix, Lydon was Program Team Leader for Tyrosine Protein Kinase Inhibitors at CIBA-GEIGY/Novartis AG, where his team discovered and developed Gleevec. He earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Medical Sciences Institute of the University of Dundee in Scotland and his B.S. from the University of Leeds in England.

Allan Marchington

Partner, Apposite Capital LLP

Allan Marchington combines entrepreneurship and executive experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech sector. A partner at Apposite since its inception, he is responsible for Apposite's Life Sciences investments. Previously Marchington was at Abingworth Management, where he was responsible for strategic changes at several of their portfolio companies. Marchington joined Abingworth in 2003, from Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Cambridge Mass., where as a member of the senior management team he was responsible for Millennium's European activities and all of the company's technology investments. Prior to Millennium, he was principal founder and CEO of Cambridge Combinatorial, a combinatorial chemistry company that was acquired by Millennium for a substantial multiple of invested capital. Before setting up Cambridge Combinatorial, Marchington worked for seven years in a range of therapeutic areas at Pfizer, Sandwich. He has a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Liverpool.

David Mott

David M. Mott brings decades of leadership experience to Ambit's board of directors. Mott became MedImmune's Chief Executive officer in October 2000 after eight years of holding various executive positions, including Vice President, with responsibility for business development, strategic planning and investor relations, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, President and Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Mott also served as Chairman of MedImmune Ventures' investment committee. In addition to his role as Chief Executive Officer and President of MedImmune, Mott serves as Executive Vice President of AstraZeneca and a member of AstraZeneca's senior executive team. Prior to joining MedImmune, Mott was a vice president in the Health Care Investment Banking Group at Smith Barney, Harris Upham & Co., Inc.

Antonio Grillo-Lopez, M.D.

Antonio Grillo-Lopez, M.D., combines clinical knowledge with regulatory expertise. He served as Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President, Medical and Regulatory Affairs at IDEC Pharmaceuticals from 1992 until his retirement in 2001. At IDEC he led clinical development of several approved drugs for the treatment of patients with low-grade or follicular non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Grillo-Lopez was awarded the Leukemia Society of America Triumph Award, the Cure for Lymphoma Foundation Trailblazer Award and the Peter McCuen Cancer Research Excellence Award from the University of California. Prior to his work at IDEC, he was Executive Medical Director for International Clinical Research Development at DuPont Merck for five years, Vice President, clinical Therapeutics and Director, Clinical Oncology Research at Parke Davis (Warner Lambert) for seven years and was Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Michigan. Grillo-Lopez graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, School of Medicine, San Juan, where he received his medical degree in Hematology. He later founded the Puerto Rico Society of Hematology and the Latin American Society of Hematology.
